The Americas

The Americas combined spread out the Earth's entire seasonal table. North America has four distinct seasons — spring brings cherry blossoms to Washington and to Japanese immigrant communities (themselves a footnote to immigration history); summer is the home season of national parks and road trips; autumn color burns from New England to the Rockies; winter brings Canadian auroras, warm sun in the deserts of the American Southwest, and the great ski fields. South America runs opposite to the Northern Hemisphere: Patagonia's best window is the southern summer of November–February; the Andean highlands (the Machu Picchu route) suit the dry season of May–September; the Caribbean's golden period is the dry season of December–April, while June to November calls for attention to hurricane season. The wise approach is to "chase the season" — somewhere on this continent is always at its perfect moment.
