China
China is a country that has written the twenty-four solar terms into everyday life, and travel follows the solar terms too: in spring, go to Jiangnan for misty gardens and rapeseed blossoms, while the tea hills around Suzhou and Hangzhou pick the pre-Qingming harvest; in summer, head northwest and to the grasslands — Xinjiang's Duku Highway opens for only one season, and the rapeseed flowers at Qinghai Lake are at their peak; autumn color pushes from north to south — Jiuzhaigou, Kanas, Beijing's Fragrant Hills, and Wuyuan's "autumn sunning" (shaiqiu) take up the relay in turn; winter splits in two — go northeast to live inside a snow fairy tale, or chase warm sunshine in Yunnan, Hainan, Fujian, and Guangdong. The three great traditional festivals — Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival — are the best windows for observing family and migration.
