Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
立山黒部アルペンルート · Toyama and Nagano prefectures
From Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture, to Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture, across the Northern Alps; the Toyama-side start is Tateyama Station (about 75 minutes from Dentetsu-Toyama Station), with Murodo at 2,450 metres as the highest point.
Know before you go
- Red lines: do not pick alpine plants in protected areas or leave marked trails. Taboos: do not write on snow walls outside the designated message area, and do not shout in cable cars or tunnels. Good manners: give way to hikers and carry all rubbish out. Common mistakes for outsiders: (1) buying a one-way ticket yet planning to turn back midway, when departure and through-ticket rules are complex — confirm first
- (2) going to the 2,450-metre plateau without cold and sun protection, as mountain weather changes fast.
