Background

Victoria Harbour lies between Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. This fine natural harbour was the foundation of Hong Kong's growth as a port and trading centre, and it has witnessed the city's rise from a small port to an international metropolis. The promenades on both shores are open all day and free to enter; the long-established Star Ferry (Central–Tsim Sha Tsui route) is the classic way to cross the harbour; and every evening the "A Symphony of Lights" light and music show is staged by buildings on both shores.

Local customs

Cross the harbour on the Star Ferry, stroll along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade or the Central waterfront, and watch "A Symphony of Lights" in the evening.
