Late-medieval Bohemian religious reformer and scholar of the University of Prague (c. 1370–1415; birth year uncertain, another account says c. 1372).
Born in Husinec, he graduated from the University of Prague and served as dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and preacher at Bethlehem Chapel; he attacked the sale of church offices and indulgences, arguing for the Bible as authority and for lay people also receiving communion in both kinds; in 1415 he was condemned as a heretic at the Council of Constance and burned at the stake, and his followers, the Hussites, subsequently triggered the Hussite Wars.
