What we collect

Visit statistics: on the live site only, we use Google Analytics 4 to record the pages you view, your approximate region, device and browser type, the site you came from, and actions such as feedback or share clicks, so we can see which content is useful. Google Analytics uses cookies in your browser; you can refuse them in your browser settings or with an extension.

Reader feedback: when you choose “Want to go”, “Helpful” or “Needs work”, give a star rating, or pick a section, reasons and a comment, we store these together with the page address, language and time. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers or other identifying details. A random token is kept in your browser so you can change your choice. Please do not include personal information in comments.

Server logs: for security and troubleshooting, our server records IP addresses, browser identifiers, times and addresses of requests, and deletes them automatically after 14 days. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which handles its access logs under its own policy. To prevent abuse, the feedback service limits submissions per IP address; these counts are kept only in server memory and never written to the database.

Information kept only on your device

Your language preference (the “gt_lang” cookie), feedback token, saved list and pages stored for offline reading stay in your browser or phone and are never sent to us. Clearing the site data in your browser (or uninstalling the app) deletes all of it.

Third-party services

Cloudflare (delivery and security), Google Analytics (statistics), Google Fonts (Chinese and Japanese heading fonts) and Wikimedia Commons (some images). Only when you tap a share button or a map link do you go to Facebook, X, WhatsApp, Google Maps, Amap, Baidu Maps or similar sites, which handle information under their own privacy policies. The WeChat share QR code is generated on your device without any third party.

Calendar reminders

“Add to calendar” creates a calendar file on your device; you decide whether to add it to your calendar, and we never receive your calendar data.

Children

The site is meant for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Access, deletion and contact

To ask about or delete feedback you submitted, write to [email protected]. Because feedback carries no identity, please tell us the page and roughly when you submitted it so we can find the record.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page.
