Roman Tmetuchl

Roman Tmetuchl · 帕劳

20th-century Palauan politician and entrepreneur, one of the main promoters of Palau's separation from the other districts of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands to seek self-government on its own.

From 1956 he served as one of the speakers of Palau's legislature; in 1976, as chairman of the Palau Political Status Commission, he submitted a petition to the United Nations; in 1984 he stood as an independent candidate in the presidential election, coming second (2,482 votes, 31.22%); in May 2006, the Palau Senate resolved to rename Palau International Airport as Roman Tmetuchl International Airport in recognition of his contribution. His birth and death years are not found in reliable published biographies, uncertain, so this draft does not write birth and death years.
