Why it’s popular
The level crossing beside Enoden's 'Kamakura-Kōkōmae Station' is the real-life model for the scene in the 'Slam Dunk' opening where Sakuragi Hanamichi and Haruko wave at each other. From around 2019 it spread virally on Douyin, Xiaohongshu and Instagram, becoming the first stop on Chinese, Japanese and Korean visitors' 'anime pilgrimages', and on sunny days the crossing is packed with cameras.

Background
The Enoden has run since 1902 and is part of Shōnan life; Kamakura was the seat of the Kamakura shogunate (1192), and the depth of the samurai capital mingles with slow seaside living — the 'Enoshima Electric Railway' itself is a symbol of Shōwa nostalgia.
Local customs
- Walking onto the tracks or stopping in the middle of the road for photos is absolutely forbidden — this is a residential area and a main road
- take photos from the pavement, don't use flash when trains pass, keep quiet and don't block pedestrians.
Religion & beliefs
No direct religious connection. Nearby Hase-dera and the Kamakura Great Buddha (Kōtoku-in) are Buddhist — follow temple etiquette if you visit.
