History
'Mohe Ballroom'
On 6 May 1987 a huge forest fire broke out in the Greater Khingan Range, and the Mohe dance hall was destroyed, with 211 people killed and 266 injured. Years later a song called 'Mohe Ballroom', about an old man who lost his wife in the fire and dances alone in the hall, made many more people remember the disaster.

Background
Mohe is China's northernmost city, in the Greater Khingan region at the north-western tip of Heilongjiang Province. Its Arctic Village, at 53°29′N on the Heilongjiang (Amur) River, is China's northernmost village, and Mohe Station, opened in 1972, is China's northernmost railway station. Winter here lasts from October to April or May, and temperatures are usually the lowest in the country. Mohe lies far south of the auroral zone, so the aurora is seen only occasionally during exceptionally strong solar activity. On 6 May 1987 the great Greater Khingan forest fire burned down the Mohe dance hall, killing 211 people — a story later told in the song 'Mohe Ballroom'.
