Contexto cultural
The glacier lagoon is filled with meltwater from Vatnajökull; calved icebergs drift down the river into the Atlantic, and pieces washed up on the black beach opposite sparkle as 'diamond ice'. This landscape of ice and fire is a visual symbol of Iceland's national story as the 'land of fire and ice', and has appeared in many films and TV series.
