Por qué es tan popular
An Edo-period theme park opened in 1986, revived in popularity in 2024–2026 on Douyin and YouTube through vlogs of 'oiran processions', 'ninja fight shows' and 'full Edo costume' — visitors can become samurai, townswomen or constables and shoot their own 'time-travel drama' in authentic Edo streets.

Cultura y costumbres
Contexto cultural
Nikkō is where Tokugawa Ieyasu rests (Nikkō Tōshō-gū), the beginning and end of the Edo shogunate's 260 years; the park recreates Edo's downtown, samurai residences and a post town, and 'Edo' is a byword for Japanese collective nostalgia.
Costumbres locales
- When dressing up, respect the staff's guidance and don't enter the 'no entry' backstage areas of the sets
- when watching ninja or oiran performances, don't wander around and block others' view.
Religión y creencias
No particular religion. The Edo period had a strong atmosphere of Shinto–Buddhist syncretism, and the park has small shrine sets — worship etiquette is the same as at ordinary shrines.
